Forbes Top Ten: Best-Paying Jobs for Women

by BigSpender on May 24, 2010

I’ve always been intrigued about the pay disparity between men and women. If you’re a female and want to get into a high paying field, check out Forbes’ list – Best-Paying Jobs for Women. Of course I’d encourage you to ensure that you’ll actually enjoy a career in the field because, in my opinion, you can’t pay me enough to do a job day after day that I loathe.

Best Paying Jobs for Women

  1. Chief Executive – The median income for female chief executives is $81,000 per year. This is about 75% of the median income for male chief executives.
  2. Pharmacists – Women account for 43% of the pharmacist population. With a median annual income of $76,500, this is also only 75% of the median income for male pharmacists.
  3. Lawyers – The median annual income for lawyers is $75,500. For those looking at racking up $100+ in student loans, consider the time it will take you to pay back all of this debt with a $75,500 median income.
  4. Computer and Information Systems Managers – Female computer geeks unite! This profession has a median annual income of $73,500. While only 28% of those in this field are female, the salary is 75% of the median salary for male workers in the field.
  5. Computer Software Engineers – More computer geekery! The median annual income for females in this field is $68,000, 85% of their male counterpart’s salary.
  6. Physicians & Surgeons – I was surprised that the annual median salary for female doctors is $64,000 and this is only 64% of their male counterpart’s annual salary. No wonder I have a hard time finding female practitioners.
  7. Computer Programmers – Yet another computer field – female programmers have a median annual income of $61,500, which is about 93% of what male’s make.
  8. Management Analysts – With a median annual income of $61,000, female management analysts make about 86% of males.
  9. Computer Scientists and Systems Analysts – Females continue to do well in the computer industry with those in this profession earning a median annual salary of $60,500. This is 92% of what males make.
  10. Occupational Therapists – This is a female-dominated field with women making up 82% of the profession and earning the same median income that males do – $60,000 per year.

As a self-professed computer geek, I love that females are doing great in computer-related fields.
